My Favorite Podcasts of 2018

Driving, walking, doing dishes, I always seem to be listening to something. Most of these are non-tech but here’s what I’ve listened to the most last year:

EconTalk

One of the first podcasts I ever subscribed to, this year the host, Russ Roberts, has brought on a wide range of guests.

Revolutions

I found this one on vacation when I was looking for something long to listen to. I started from the beginning and I’m still on the episodes from 2017! Every season is good although the South American revolutions season kind of dragged. What’s nice about history podcast is they can be listened to whenever, there is no real need to keep up.

THE FIFTH COLUMN

This is now my main “politics”/“news” podcast mostly because it is funny and has different perspectives.

This week in startups

I don’t listen to every episode, only if something that looks interesting. I usually listen at 1.5 speed too. Nevertheless, I get little nuggets here and there.

R U Talkin’ R.E.M. RE: ME? / R U Talkin’ U2 2 Me?

I grew up loving U2 and R.E.M. and just discovered this distraction. It’s pretty funny and they do talk about U2 sometimes :) I haven’t gotten to the R.E.M. part yet but what a great idea for a podcast.

Conversations With Tyler

Tyler Cowen is a pretty smart guy and it’s always interesting to hear him talk to other smart people.

Withouth Fail

This is a new show and I haven’t been listening to every episode. The 2 groupon episodes are excellent.

Waking Up Podcast

Not every episode here either, I have a love/hate relationship with this show but I go back to it every so often.

Rex Factor

Another histor gem, I have started then stopped it and was reading The English and their History for a while but put it down for now while I finish Revolutions.

Masters in Business

A Bloomberg podcast that’s not just about business, another one I pass on listening to half the time.

Macro Musings

More technical econ stuff but pretty easy to follow for somebody with general econ knowledge (me).

Gone from my feed

These are the podcasts I’ve dropped:

Slate Political Gabfest

I used to enjoy this but it has became too angry and lacking in substance.

China History podcast

I enjoyed this when I was living in China but it just seemed like I would skip every episode.

China in the World

Another one I enjoyed when I in China but dropped it for a few reasons. They can’t seem to get a regularly scheduled releases. Also, because it is recorded in China and probably subject to censorship, they side step a lot of news that would be really interesting.
